• That’s Bananas! Port Tampa Bay Welcomes First Banana Shipment in 21 years

More than 3,900 pallets of Chiquita bananas from Ecuador arrived last week at the new Port Logistics Refridgerated Services warehouse, and Shooting Stars Post was there to capture it all.

SSP provided videography and timelapse video from land, sea, and air, including from inside the warehouse as the precious cargo was being unloaded. The ship started unloading at 8 AM and finished unloading around midnight, departing for its next destination at 8 AM the following morning.

The shipment was the first ever to the state of the art, 135,000-square-foot cold storage facitity, and the first shipment of bananas to Port Tampa Bay in over two decades! The Port Logistics’ cold storage warehouse includes on-site fumigation facilities, U.S. Customs and USDA inspection areas and a lab. It is the first facility of its kind on the Interstate 4 corridor.

Port officials said they were heartened that the warehouse’s first customer came away happy.

“Chiquita is very pleased with this first shipment of bananas through Port Tampa Bay as a new entry port for the distribution of our fresh fruit into the continental U.S. market,” Chiquita Brands International logistics director Manrique Bermudez said in a statement released through the port.

  • SSP Goes Coast-To-Coast

Shooting Stars Post (SSP) went coast-to-coast with Major League Baseball pitcher, Mark Melancon of the San Francisco Giants, and Satellite News Tours (SNT) earlier this month, taking part in a live broadcast used to bring awareness to a rare genetic disorder called PKU.

PKU is a rare genetic condition that about 350 babies are born with in the U.S. every year. Often referred to as a diet disorder, people with PKU have difficulty breaking down phenylalanine (Phe) which is an amino acid found in all natural protein. When Phe levels are high or uncontrolled, people with PKU can experience symptoms that have lasting impact on the brain. Left unmanaged, it can lead to significant neurological damage and severe intellectual impairment. Today, 1 in 10-15,000 newborns are diagnosed with PKU, and one of those children is Ella, the daughter of Melancon.

To belatedly celebrate National PKU Awareness Day (Dec. 3rd), Melancon took part in the broadcast to share his own story, provide the latest statistics and risk factors associated with PKU, and what to do if you know someone with or your child is diagnosed with the condition.

The broadcast was transmitted across the country to television and radio stations from Tampa to Chicago, and beyond. SSP provided the studio space and the crew for SNT, and is proud to help Melancon as an advocate for PKU.

  • Port Tampa Bay: In Record Time!

If you live near Tampa Bay, you’ve probably seen the huge cargo ships transporting goods in and out of Port Tampa Bay. What you may not know, however, is how those ships load and unload with such efficiency. Shooting Stars Post, in partnership with the Port Tampa Bay, was tasked with capturing the dynamics of the MSC Tamara loading and unloading containers to showcase the new Post-Panamex gantry cranes in full operation. The perfect way to showcase this? Time-lapse video.

Time-lapse cinematography is a motion picture technique by which a naturally slow process, like the blossoming of a flower or the unloading of a cargo ship, can be seen at a greatly accelerated rate. Normal cinematography reproduces movement by recording and displaying it at 24 frames per second, but in time-lapse, single frames are recorded at much greater time intervals and then viewed at the standard 24 frames per second. Therefore, speeding up a slower process that might not be viewed previously in one sitting.

SSP used high-resolution cameras and motion control dollies at all angles throughout the day to capture the cargo ship unloading and the technology used to enable them to do so efficiently and effectively. Check out the time lapse video below, and follow us on Vimeo for more content!

  • Trains, Planes, and Ro-Ro Ships!

Port Tampa Bay and Tampa International Airport welcomed new trains all the way from the Mitsubishi plant in Japan on June 9th. The twelve trains, delivered by a Ro-Ro, or roll-on/roll-off ship, will make up the SkyConnect people-mover shuttle system currently being built as part of a $1 billion renovation at Tampa International Airport. The shuttle system will connect a new rental car facility and the economy parking garage to the main terminal, and will be operational in early 2018. Shooting Stars Post (SSP) captured the delivery from the moment it reached the port, using drones, ground based video, and time lapse footage of the ship and its cargo to create a unique viewing experience of this historic event.

Check out the video we created of the trains coming into the port below!

SSP also provided video and still photography coverage of the Press Event on Monday the 17th. Governor Scott, Mayor Bob Buckhorn, TPA CEO Joe Lopano, PTB CEO Paul Anderson, and other dignitaries were in attendance to help celebrate the big event. Port Tampa Bay was happy to assist, and is proud to be a trusted partner in delivering this shuttle system to Tampa International Airport and the Bay area.
